Houghton City Park

Houghton City Park is a small RV park with just 22 sites. All but 5 sites back up to the Portage Lake Canal. The sites and roads are paved. All sites are full hook up with 50 amp electric.  Most are fairly level. Each site have a covered picnic table, wood bench and fire ring.  The first 10 sites have some shrubs'/small trees between them.  There is cable TV with about 50-60 channels. You have all this for $30. a night, $200. a week. Our Verizon cell phone had 3-4 bars. Wifi in the park went from fair to good to excellent. Not sure why it varied.

Country Village RV Park

Country Village RV Park, 1200 Country Lane, Ishpeming MI, 49849. We stayed here in June of 2013 for 10 days getting our Microwave/convection oven replaced. It had to be ordered, then shipped, then installed. The work took less then an hour. The RV Park was right behind the RV dealer doing the replacement. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. The manager Deborah was WONDERFUL. About the best helpful manager we ever dealt with. She even forwarded mail to us that arrived after we left. We paid $21 a night with our Passport America membership. We had a full hook up with 50 amp electric pull thru. The site was about 100 foot long. After July 1st PA is only good on water and electric sites. The site was gravel and grass. The roads are paved. It is big rig friendly.  There is a heated pool and hot tub. A very clean laundry with 2 w/d. There are 109 sites, mostly back ins. About 15 are 50 amp. There is Wi-Fi, and it worked well from our site. Open for satellite. Over the air TV good, all major networks.  Very dog friendly. Several shops and restaurants with in a 100 yards of the park. Low lighting at night and very quiet. There is a train, but very little noise from it, no whistles. This is a very very well kept, with a great staff. We are still in the off season. We would stay here again.

Tiki RV Park ST Ignace MI

Tiki RV Park, 200 S. Airport Road, St Ignace, MI, 49781. We were in site 43 a pull thru full hook up w/50 amp electric. Date 6/8-6/12/13. Very helpful owners. They are members of Passport America,  our rate was $21. The site was gravel and fairly level. Small grass area between sites. There are a lot of trees so satellite may be a problem in some sites. Not all sites are full hook up. We could get satellite from our site. There is Wifi in the park and it worked well from our site. There is a small clean laundry with a small book exchange. It is big rig friendly with care. Some area's are narrow and all are not big rig friendly. It is dog friendly. Very dark and quiet at night. This is a good park to visit the area. We would stay here again if in the area.  In 1957 gravel was taken from the site and 52 skeletons were revealed.  There were Huron or Ojibwa Indians. The bones were turned over to the Sault tribe.

Northwest MI Fairground Traverse City MI

Northwest Michigan Fairground, 3606 Blair Townhall Rd., Traverse City MI. About 120 sites, 30/50 amp electric only. There are 6 water fill stations, but all but one were not threaded. I used a water bandit to add water to our tank, didn't see the threaded one till the next day. There is a dump station. All sites are back in on gravel and grass, fairly level. But site are back to back, so we pulled thru. There were only 3 other RV's there when we came in and had two more join us the next day. $20. a night, a great deal in an otherwise expensive area.  This is a no frills campground. There were two "job johnnies". The manager told us there are showers down in the fairgrounds, but a very  long walk from the campground. Self contained is the way to go here. Fairly open, very few trees. TV over the air, all major stations. Open for satellite. Night; only light was one at the entrance, otherwise very dark. Also very quiet. Did see a few picnic tables and fire rings by the office, but not at sites. They are looking for a campground host. About 4-5 miles for several grocery stores. Many restaurants in 3-4 miles. A good stop to tour the area and about 40 miles to Sleeping Bear Dune National Shoreline. Many wineries with in 20-30 miles. A casino about 20 miles. Not sure what its like at fair time. There was a horse show when we were there, but we never heard a sound from the activities, but we were at the very far end away from the fair area.  Again this is a "NO FRILLS" campground, but it worked very well for us.

Timberlake RV PK Mears MI 5-2013

Timberlake Resort and RV Club, 4370 N. Ridge RD Mears MI 49434, 231 873 3285. We stayed here for 3 days using our Coast to Coast membership.

 We paid $10. per night. In the directory it said there is a $5. utility charge, but we weren't charged this fee. But there is a sign at the office that said starting July 1st, there will be a $3. utility charge. This is a very well kept park. Most of the sites are seasonal, but most are well kept. There are about 20 new sites that are 50amp electric. Some roads are paved. The new area that we were in are gravel,. All sites are gravel.

There is NO sewer sites in the park, but there is a pump out service. Not sure of the charge. They have  beach access about 1/4 mile from the entrance. It is a long steep walk down from the parking area.

The park is about 6-8 miles off  RT 31. A little out of the way for a short visit. But that being said you are not far from Silver Lake State Park and some great sand dunes, a light house and some nice views. (Look for this State Park in a post coming soon) The beach was nice but to cold and windy when we were there. It would be a great place to sit and read a  book. It is big rig friendly, but with care. Some of the roads are a little narrow. Of the 250 sites, maybe only 25 sites had someone at them. This was the off season. It could be very busy in season.  There is a small clubhouse with a small book exchange. The pool may be a little small for a park this size.

Sunnybrook RV Resort, South Haven MI, May 2013

This is truly a resort. We stayed for 5 nights. It is a membership resort were you buy a lot. The nightly rate is $56. a night. We had a 50% off coupon that we received at the Tampa RV Super Show. Everybody we met were very friendly. Every Friday night there is a get together in the clubhouse with wine, beer, soda(up here "pop") and finger food, all compliments of the club.
   All site are back ins on a double wide cement pad with full hook ups, 50 amp electric. Each site has a build in fire pit and picnic table. Wifi in the park worked well, there are at least 4 Wifi repeaters that I saw. It is a very well maintain park. There is a very nice laundry. It is big rig friendly. Many amenities with a small stocked fishing lake. Our Verizon phone had 4 bars. Open for good satellite  reception.  Lots of area to walk a dog.  Good night lighting and very quite. There is a small book exchange in the clubhouse. No RV's over 10 years old and under 28 foot in length. The resort is about 2 miles out of the town of South Haven and about 2.5 off route 31.

The heated pool and front  of clubhouse. Around the lake, with a sand beach and large fire ring for group get together.  My only complaint is that the row of sites that border the lake are for Motor Homes only, they pull in.
