Holland MI and area, May 2013

   A short drive from South Haven is Holland Mi. We were to late for the tulip  festival and all the blooming tulips, but we did get to tour the area. Another very nice small town along the shore of Lake Michigan. We did go to Windmill Island Gardens. There is a windmill that was transported from Holland to Holland MI. Very interesting story. We did a tour of the windmill. You can go up to the fifth floor. It was a neat to see how the windmill worked. Dutch law now prohibits the sale of windmills, since they are now considered national monuments. The blades are 80 feet long and 6 feet wide. See  www. windmillisland.org

After the gardens we went to Veldheer's wood shoe factory and Delft factory. Beautiful.

   On our way back to the RV we saw a sign for Crane's Pie Pantry. Well we just had to check it out. See www.cranespiepantry.com 

We did have pie. A great place for a lunch stop. Inside the pie pantry. Note the Durkee's artifact, its from our home town. A lot of neat memorability.

We then came across this mansion, but it wasn't open.

  
There are many wineries in Michigan. I saw somewhere there are over 300 in the state. I'm hoping to find one with cherry wine, I've never had cherry wine so I'm looking forward to having some. Seen it advertised, but still on the lookout for some.
